Play65 software review - 11 april 2006 As an
advocate of the 'KISS - ideal of keep it simple simple', the idea of playing
an online game of backgammon is a little daunting for someone whose
capabilities with the internet are to say the least not great. In fact the
whole idea of going onto a web site and clicking a couple of buttons to give
me access to a world of unrivalled entertainment is alien to my upbringing.
I have always been of the opinion that in order to get something done it
needs to be at the least complicated: look at flat pack furniture a perfect
example of the complicated in harmony with the hopeless.
Consequently when you think about an entertainment or a game that is played
online you would expect it to be complicated, with instructions that border
on an aircraft instruction manual: Go to section A - download here, press
this here on Section B, click that button do this etc. Doing this is very
tedious and very frustrating, not so with Play65. It is a simple one click
to do this operation and so easy to do and to play. With simple 'follow this
instruction' screen which opens up once you have clicked on the home page,
and to the download page, which offers just six simple instructions on what
to do and takes you through each and every step by step as you start the
process of downloading the software. You cannot play the game without the
downloaded software, it has to be installed on your computer and you have
certain system requirements in place, consisting of Pentium 133mhz, 32MB of
hard disk space, 64Mb of RAM – with either Windows 2000 or XP operating
systems. The resolution should also be set to 800X600 and the colour
resolution to high (16 bit or more). That’s about as complicated as it gets.
Also at this point you find you will be given hints and tips on the game as
you move from instruction to instruction, hints on the dice, and doubling,
useful to help you understand the game more. This keeps the player in touch
as the download progress’s a neat touch by Play 65.
These six easy steps start the process that leads you to be a player, either
as a fun player or a money player, if you choose money player your account
is credited with $2.00 right away. In creating your account you need to
ensure you pick a user name and a password that can’t be guessed, backgammon
online is still a game that allows you to play an audience that literally
comes from the four corners of the globe, so once you have your name and
password entered you're free to play. The software takes you through the
stages of the game and guides you as you play, combine this with the chat
facility that is provided by play 65 and you start to realise just how much
this game has impacted on the virtual gaming world and why good sensible and
understandable software makes playing it so much easier.
